Ideas for Half Term Fun!

Half term has arrived, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to slow down and enjoy some proper time with your little ones. Without the usual rush of school runs and routines, it’s a chance to fill the days with simple activities that children genuinely love.

Going to the park

Getting outside is always a good place to start. A trip to the local park, a walk around your neighbourhood, or even just time in the garden can turn into an adventure. Go on a nature hunt together and collect leaves, sticks or stones. Children love having a purpose, and you can always use what they find later for crafts at home.

Speaking of crafts, you don’t need anything fancy. Paper, crayons, stickers and cardboard boxes can keep children busy for hours. A cardboard box can become a car, a house, or anything their imagination decides. Let them lead and create freely. It’s not about perfection, it’s about the process.

The kitchen is another great place for half term fun.

Baking cupcakes, decorating biscuits, or helping prepare meals can make children feel involved and proud.

Baking

Even simple tasks like mixing ingredients or adding toppings can feel exciting when it’s something they’re

doing with you.

Den building is a classic for a reason. Use blankets, cushions and chairs to create a cosy hideaway. It can become a reading corner, a secret den, or a place to relax with snacks and stories. These small moments often become their favourite memories.

Quieter activities are just as important too. Reading together, watching a favourite film, or having a cosy afternoon at home gives everyone time to recharge. Let your child choose the book or film. Giving them that sense of choice makes it feel more special.

You can also turn everyday moments into something fun. Let them help with cooking, tidying toys, or organising their things. Children love to feel included, and it builds confidence as well as independence.

Half term doesn’t need to be filled with big plans. Some of the best days are the simplest ones. It’s about being together, making memories, and enjoying the slower pace.
