Guest Blog - Hear from Dad and Entrepreneur Matt Dyson and Rockit!

Today one of our 2022 Bambini Baby Award entrants has written a guest blog introducing the brilliant backstory to his Rockit Rocker baby products business as well as a fleeting encounter with Tom Cruise!

Rockit is portable baby rocker that fits to any pushchair or pram. It gently rocks to help maintain babies sleep when the stroller stops moving. It was developed by myself and 2 other dads on mission to help other parents safely soothe their babies to sleep. Rockit took 2 years to develop and is now widely available from independent nursey stores, John Lewis, JoJo Maman Bebe, Amazon and via our own website www.rockitrocker.com It is also being sold in over 40 countries all over the world.

​Nick (my brother-in-law) invented it in 2015 when his three-month-old daughter Abby always woke up in the pushchair when it stopped moving. He noticed this problem affected other weary parents and one evening had a lightbulb moment. He took an old printer apart, salvaged the motor and soldered together a simple control circuit. The resulting prototype worked and the very next day Abby remained asleep even when the pushchair stopped moving. Nick set about developing the prototype with help from myself and another friend and over the next couple of years we turned the original prototype into Rockit, a rocket shaped portable baby rocker that was launched to critical acclaim in 2017.

​Since then, things have really taken off, with Rockit winning multiple awards, being featured in Vogue and The Times, plus several appearances on national TV. Rockit was reviewed on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ with Phil and Holly raving about it. The Rockit team also featured on Channel 4’s ‘Buy it Now’, hosted by Brian Conley. Whilst backstage at the TV studios we bumped into Tom Cruise who was just about to appear on The Graham Norton Show. He was curious why the three of us were dressed up as astronauts. We were so focused on the TV show that they didn’t realise who he was and completely blanked him! I still kick myself to this day.

o, what is the reason for Rockit success? Firstly, it solves a real problem and gives mums and dads some extra peace and quiet whilst their little one is content by their side. After all, a happy and content baby makes for a happy and content parent.  Rockit is also very versatile and fits any pram or stroller using a clever universal bracket. It has an adjustable speed, so you can achieve the perfect rock that soothes your little one. The motor is whisper quiet, so it won’t disturb your baby or anyone else. It’s shower proof and has been tested to the highest safety standards. 

​Since the Rockit launch we have been busy developing a range of products to help solve other child sleep issues. Zed, is our astronaut shaped sleep aid that soothes babies to sleep just like the car. The finely tuned vibrations ripple gently through any mattress, encouraging a deep sleep.

​Most recently we have launched Wooshh, the small but mighty sound soother which has 8 calming sounds, 4 volume levels and is USB rechargeable, with a 1 hour or all-night mode. It even includes a real space sound used with kind permission from NASA!
